Student projects with AI: 10 ideas for practical use in the classroom

What real-world problems can students solve with AI projects?

Integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the classroom offers a wealth of opportunities to make learning more interactive, personalized and effective. From automating simple tasks to providing personalized learning paths, the potential is enormous. But how can teachers use these technologies to provide students with hands-on experiences and prepare them for a future where AI will be ubiquitous? In this article, we present 10 inspiring ideas for school projects that enable the practical use of AI in the classroom and help to promote important skills.

1. DEVELOP CHATBOTS

Project description: Students create simple chatbots that perform certain tasks, such as an FAQ (frequently asked questions), provide homework help or guide students through the school day.

Learning objectives: Basic knowledge of programming and AI, understanding of natural language processing, user interaction and interface design

2. IMAGE RECOGNITION WITH AI

Poject describtion: Students use image recognition APIs such as TensorFlow, Keras or Google Vision to create a project that categorizes images or recognizes objects in photos. Examples could be the recognition of plant species, animals or everyday objects.

Learning objectives: Understanding of machine learning, image processing and training of models, application of AI in image processing

3. AI SUPPORTED DATA ANALYSIS

Poject describtion: Students collect and analyze data on a topic of their choice, such as environmental data, sports statistics or school grades. They use AI algorithms to recognize patterns, visualize data and make predictions.

Learning objectives: Data analysis, understanding of statistical methods and machine learning, interpretation and communication of results

4. Emotions EMOTION RECOGNITION IN TEXTS

Poject describtion: Students create programs that analyze and classify emotions in texts, e.g. in social media, reviews or literary texts.

Learning objectives: Text analysis, sentiment analysis, understanding of psycholinguistic concepts, model training and evaluation

5. AUTOMATIC MUSIC COMPOSITION

Poject describtion: Students use AI tools to compose music or analyze and modify existing pieces of music.

Learning objectives: Creative applications of AI, understanding of music theory

6. AI BASED GAME DEVELOPMENT

Poject describtion: Students create simple games that use AI to adjust difficulty or control enemy behavior.

Learning objectives: Fundamentals of game development, algorithmic thinking, integration of AI in interactive applications

7. VIRTUELLE TUTORING SYSTEMS

Poject describtion: Students develop AI-supported virtual assistants that offer personalized help with various school subjects. These tutoring systems can customize learning content, answer questions and track progress.

Learning objectives: Personalized learning technologies, natural language processing, adaptive learning systems, evaluation of the effectiveness of learning aid

8. ANALYSIS OF SOCIAL NETWORK

Poject describtion: Students analyze social network data to identify trends, patterns and network effects.

Learning objectives: Basics of network analysis, analysis of social interactions and network effects, ethics and privacy in social network analysis

9. EDUCATION PROJECTS ON THE INTEGRATION OF AI

Poject describtion: Students develop projects that aim to integrate AI technologies into existing teaching materials, e.g. interactive learning modules or adaptive learning environments. They can combine platforms such as Moodle or Google Classroom with AI tools.

Learning objectives: pedagogy and educational technology, project management and teamwork, evaluation of the effectiveness of AI-supported learning methods

10. CREATION OF A RECOMMENDATION SYSTEM

Project describtion: Students develop an AI-supported recommendation system that gives book, movie or music recommendations based on user preferences.

Learning objectives: Basics of recommendation algorithms, data analysis and user profiling, understanding of personalization techniques and their applications

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS SHOULD BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT WHEN CARRYING OUT AI PROJECTS
